BEYOND NOISE HEARS ABOUT BARBIE'S CULTURAL LEGACY, FROM CURATOR Barbara Paris Gifford.

By Libby Hsieh

Barbie isn’t just a toy. Since 1959, she’s been a mirror to the spaces women occupy and imagine themselves in. The Museum of Arts and Design highlights the doll’s 65-year journey through fashion, culture, and identity in its latest exhibition, Barbie: A Cultural Icon (on through March 16).

Senior Curator Barbara Paris Gifford sat down with Beyond Noise to unpack how Barbie expanded young girls’ sense of self and redefined pop culture, one doll at a time.
